Hello ITK Community,
I’m writing to inform you of an important update to our community guidelines. The Insight Software Consortium has formally resolved to adopt the NumFOCUS Code of Conduct, and we’re updating our documentation accordingly.
What’s Changed
Our Code of Conduct documents now link directly to the NumFOCUS Code of Conduct website, aligning ITK with the broader scientific computing ecosystem that we’re part of. This change reflects our commitment to maintaining a welcoming, inclusive, and professional environment for all community members.
Why This Matters
By adopting the NumFOCUS Code of Conduct, we’re:
- Strengthening our community standards with well-established, comprehensive guidelines
- Adopting a sustainable, well-define enforcement system to ensure the Code of Conduct is followed
- Aligning with the broader ecosystem of scientific computing projects under NumFOCUS
- Ensuring consistency across the tools and libraries our community commonly uses
- Demonstrating our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for researchers, developers, and users from all backgrounds
What This Means for You
The core principles remain the same - we expect all community members to:
- Treat each other with respect and professionalism
- Create a welcoming environment for contributors of all experience levels
- Focus on constructive collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Report any concerns through established channels
Resources
You can review the full NumFOCUS Code of Conduct at their official website. It will guide you to the appropriate resources and reporting mechanisms.
This update reinforces ITK’s position as a professional, community-driven project committed to excellence in both software development and community interaction. As always, we appreciate your continued contributions to making ITK a valuable resource for the image analysis and research community.
Best regards,
Matt McCormick
