🖐 Mostly because Python 2 is still the default on current stable Linux distributions.

The scientific Python community has made some noise about timelines for dropping support for Python 2 recently, and we may want to keep [NumPy’s timeline](https://github.com/numpy/numpy/blob/master/doc/neps/dropping-python2.7-proposal.rst), in mind, for instance.
