# Eigen's role in ITK

Related to this is also VNL’s role in ITK. I have created an issue, [Proposal: Hard-fork vnl — drop ITK\_USE\_SYSTEM\_VXL and stop tracking upstream vxl · Issue #6250 · InsightSoftwareConsortium/ITK · GitHub,](https://github.com/InsightSoftwareConsortium/ITK/issues/6250) to discuss ways to minimize the burden of maintaining VNL compatibility and to explore performance enhancements or conversions to eigen base analysis.

Community discussion, support, concerns are welcome on that issue.
